Dear Younger Me
Dear Younger Me
Dear younger me,
You're loved. You have always been loved. And loving
yourself will come in time and with acceptance; in truth you'll only start
learning to do so when you hit age seventeen. Right now things don't make
sense, but as life unfolds, so will answers to questions you've had your whole
life. Your uniqueness will all make sense in the end. In truth, it won't be
until year 13 that things will really start to make sense, but you'll be ok -
just keep on being you and you'll be fine.
Adulthood and the independence it brings seems distant, yet
nerve-racking. I know. It comes to you so quickly, though. Allow yourself to
stay an unconcerned child for as long as you can. And please, just be kinder to
yourself. You'll never feel ready to grow up but you don't need to worry about
that just yet; focus on the beautiful moments and be excited for all those
you'll have when you do get older.
Friendships will come and go, and its going to hurt. There
are some great people in the world though, and with time you will be able to
trust and make connections with those who you will one day be able to call your
closest friends. I know that school is really difficult for you at the moment,
a complex and daunting place. Remain bold, continue to be brave. Throughout secondary
school things will start to fall into place, you'll meet teachers along the way
that will change your life forever.
Although at the moment it seems far from the truth, you must
hold onto the fact that you are absolutely perfect at being you and nobody else
could do a better job at it.
You'll be just fine. You need to hold onto that hope. There
is a little light inside you and as you grow, it will too.
With love,
Your 18 year old self.
